SINGAPORE: Nestled in the leafy Duxton Hill neighborhood, Rizu opened its doors in September and has fast become Singapore’s most talked about new Japanese restaurant.
The sophisticated 38-seater enclave, well known for its vibrant rolls and mouth-watering sashimi, has introduced three new omakase sets which combine its signature items with intriguing new flavours.
Omakase, translating to “I will leave it to you”, is indigenous to Japan’s tradition of allowing the chef to curate the meal without input from the guests. In keeping with its philosophy to provide an authentic native experience, each item on the Rizu omakase menu is thoughtfully crafted by Head Chef Noboru Shimohigashi.
Growing up in a rich culinary environment in Hiroshima, Japan, cultivated Chef Noboru’s craft precision and passion for contemporary Japanese cuisine – a trait that is evident across Rizu’s omakase menu. With over a decade of experience working in renowned restaurants, including the Michelin-starred Ryuzu in Japan and Béni in Singapore, Chef Noboru brings traditional Japanese hospitality into a modern setting.
Diners can choose from three delectable omakase variations – completed with an introduction of the dining experience from Chef Noboru himself. With each set, Rizu unveils a plethora of indulgent new dishes.
The ultimate Special Omakase ($200), consisting of 11 mouth-watering dishes, is made up of an assortment of fresh seasonal ingredients that evolves on a regular basis. The savoury Lobster Bisque is an excellent prelude to the pan seared Foie Gras sautéed with plum. Two mains dishes are featured for this set – the Black Cod marinated to perfection with miso and the juicy Wagyu Steak coated in the venue’s signature wasabi.
Guests with a penchant for Japanese fusion will be able to opt for the Modern Style Omakase ($150), which encompasses nine courses. Channelling European flavours, highlights include the Beef Tataki with urchin carpaccio and Shrimp Frites accompanied with buckwheat.
While sushi lovers can indulge in the Fresh Fish Omakase ($150) – an eight-course menu, featuring the signature Nigiri Sushi and Ikedukuri live seafood sashimi.
Equally impressive is the newly added tender Lamb Chop, with fragrant wasabi and rosemary garlic.
Riza continues to bring a new dynamic to the Japanese dining scene in the city – consistently delivering innovative creations for lovers of the contemporary native fare. The chic indoor space seats up to 28 guests including six intimate counter seats which allow diners to watch the action of their food being prepared live by the skilful chefs.
Alternatively, patrons are welcome to bask in the neighbourhood’s lively atmosphere and opt to be placed in the al-fresco space that seats up to ten. Combining an impeccable mix of culinary finesse, genuine hospitality and a delicious food spread, the refined locale is the latest go-to destination for social gatherings, celebrations and post-work drinks.
