Mount Gay has unveiled its new small-batch release for 2022 utilising a non-traditional wood choice, Andean oak.
This year’s release follows the process of a single batch of rum distilled twice in a traditional copper pot still, aged fourteen years in ex-Bourbon casks, before finishing its ageing process in an unconventional wood choice, Andean Oak, for eleven months.
The blend adds a deeper level of complexity to aromatics, offering smoky and spicy notes that pair seamlessly with the traditional subtle vanilla aroma. On the palate, complexity in layers of spice, nutmeg, vanilla, ripe pear, and toasted coconut are revealed.
The flavourful rum follows a lineage of limited-edition creations which debuted in 2018. The first of its collection, the XO: The Peat Smoke Expression, created by former Master Blender Allen Smith, paved the way for expert and innovative rum-making in the years that follow.
Passing on the helm and title of Master Blender to Trudiann Branker, she proceeded to create two consecutive award-winning expressions, ‘Pot Still Rum’ in 2019 and 2020’s ‘The Port Cask Expression’.
Mount Gay Andean Oak Cask is limited to 2,760 bottles globally. Bottled at 48% ABV, the liquid is non-chill filtered to preserve its exquisite natural colour tone and rich aromas. With its breakthrough into the Singapore market (RSP S$240), this distinctive bottle can be found on Rémy Cointreau’s official store on Amazon.
The blend is also available in top Singapore cocktail bars and rum destinations including Sugarhall, Lime House, Low Tide and The Bar at 15 Stamford.
