PSB Academy (PSB) will ink an exclusive partnership with VX Sport to offer students from its sports science programmes the use of VX Sport software, and train them to harness data analytics for sports coaching and athlete performance management.
PSB Academy’s sports science programmes equip students with practical skill sets and win smart with data analytics.
The three-year agreement will also see both PSB and VX Sport collaborate on securing opportunities for PSB’s sports science students to gain internship and professional industry attachments with Singapore’s national sporting teams.
“We’re delighted to be the first private education institution to partner with VX Sport to transform the way our students learn and apply concepts of biomechanics, physiology and nutrition with the power of data analytics. We are committed to constantly evolving forward-thinking, industry-ready programmes that will help our students become active contributors to Singapore’s growing reputation as a sporting nation,” said Dr Martin Grunert, Head, School of Life and Physical Sciences, PSB Academy.
The essence of VX Sport is to empower coaches and athletes to maximise their physical potential, reduce their risk of injury, reduce costs long term (through reduced medical costs) and ultimately to succeed.
“With this milestone partnership with PSB Academy, we are excited at the potential of equipping these students with the skill sets and tools which will assist in realising Singapore’s sporting potential. They will learn to effectively harness the power of technology in enhancing decision making–the same ones already being successfully employed by peak institutes and professional teams – to help build a fitter, faster, stronger Team Singapore,” said Solomon Yusef Casoojee, Partner, Sportsworkz (official distributor of VX Sports in Singapore).
“The skills I learn from these advanced monitoring tools under the Sports Science programme can empower me to become a more discerning athlete, and also open up real opportunities for me to become a professional sports consultant in the field,” said Fazrul Nawaz, a striker for the S-League club Tampines Rovers, who just enrolled in PSB’s sports science diploma programme.
“I’m looking forward to acquiring a deeper, more analytical set of skills with the new and improved sports science programme at PSB Academy, and am confident it’s a good step toward achieving my ambition to become a coach to young ones, to help them find their passion and be successful in sports,” said Muhammad Nur Alfian Juma’en, a SEA Games gold medallist with the national solar team and new student with PSB’ sports science programme.
Both organisations will officiate this industry partnership at PSB’s Open House at the academy’s newly opened $15 million campus at Marina Square: http://www.psb-academy.edu.sg/about-psb-academy/highlights/open-house-and-career-day/
The Open House – PSB’s first for the year – will showcase the academy’s comprehensive slate of more than 80 academic and skills-based certificate to degree programmes, from its five schools, namely the School of Business and Management, Engineering and Technology, Life and Physical Sciences, Foundation Studies and the School of Postgraduate Studies.
