Hawkers’ Street by Select Group, the leading food service provider in Singapore for over 30 years, is set to unveil its biggest outlet on 10 July, 2024.
Spanning 518 sq m, the Tampines 1 outlet has 238 seats, making it three times bigger than its first outlet in ION Orchard.
Nestled in the heart of the recently refurbished Tampines 1, this spacious new location will be the first in the heartland, creating an inviting and vibrant dining environment for patrons. Tampines Hawkers’ Street will have Michelin Bib Gourmand brands as well as other household hawker names with rich heritage.
The success of the ION Orchard outlet has demonstrated the significant demand for traditional hawker cuisine in a prime location. By expanding to Tampines, the aim is to offer residents and visitors in the East convenient access to these beloved dishes without the need for long travel.
Additionally, Hawkers’ Street will introduce new and diverse brands at the Tampines outlet and provide local hawkers a platform to showcase a variety of new flavours.
Jack Tan, Executive Director of Select Group, said: “We are thrilled to bring Hawkers’ Street to the heartlands. Our goal is to provide the community with easy access to Singapore’s most beloved hawker dishes, all in one convenient location. We believe that by offering a wide variety of high-quality hawker food, we can celebrate and preserve our rich culinary heritage. We are proud to collaborate with a variety of hawker legends and emerging talents, giving them a platform to reach a broader audience. ”
The outlet brings a dazzling array of legacy stalls and new favourites, such as Koung’s Wan Tan Mee, Nikmat Nasi Lemak by HUSK and Fire Western ‘N’ Grill.
Koung’s Wan Tan Mee has garnered a loyal following for its delicious wan tan noodles, while Nikmat Nasi Lemak, a subsidiary of HUSK, offers a unique take on traditional nasi lemak. Fire Western ‘N’ Grill, known for its inclusive dining experience and popular Western dishes continues to attract a diverse crowd.
Having earned a spot on various lists of “Best Wanton Mee in Singapore”, Koung’s Wan Tan Mee has been a beloved staple since 1964 when Mr. Koung Boon Kong began selling noodles from a pushcart in Geylang.
Known for its succulent roasted char siew, springy egg noodles and handmade chilli, Koung’s maintains traditional cooking methods, including an on-site charcoal oven for that wok hei flavour, ensuring each bite offers a nostalgic taste.
After closing its doors in December 2023 after 57 years, fans rejoiced and flocked to join the long queues when it reopened at 121 Geylang East. Now, within less than six months, it will also be available at Tampines Hawkers’ Street.
Nikmat Nasi Lemak, founded by HUSK Nasi Lemak, offers a beloved local favourite with a modern twist. Head Chef Gideon Tan, with over 16 years of experience in various Asian cuisines, has crafted an exquisite range of nasi lemak dishes and sides that offer a gastronomic adventure. The menu includes spicy lemak chicken, tangy and aromatic assam pedas fish and Chef’s Signature crispy, golden-brown chicken cutlet, all topped with their rich, flavorful secret recipe sambal chilli and fragrant coconut rice.
Nikmat prides itself on offering high-quality meals at more accessible price points, hoping to reach out to locals who seek both traditional flavours and contemporary dining experiences, bringing the best of both worlds to the heartlands.
Equally impressive is Hill Street Hainanese Curry Rice, a culinary gem offering a comforting meal featuring steamed white rice with tantalising sides such as curry chicken, braised pork, crispy pork chops, fried fish and vegetables. The highlight is its aromatic and creamy curry sauce, made from a blend of coconut milk, curry powder and spices, delivering a perfect balance of heat and richness.
Another crowd favourite, Fire Western ‘N’ Grill, serves up signature dishes like the Hawaiian Chicken, marinated in a special blend of over ten herbs and spices, and the creamy, rich Carbonara, showcasing their dedication to quality and taste. Now relocated from Century Square to Hawkers’ Street, Fire Western ‘N’ Grill continues to delight customers with its popular Western dishes.
Founded in 1939, Tai Wah Pork Noodle serves meticulously crafted Teochew minced pork noodles. Their secret chilli and vinegar recipe, developed over decades, maintains the humble yet renowned beginnings from Taiwah Coffee Shop at Hill Street, offering a perfect blend of tradition and flavour.
Similarly, Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice has become a household name in Singapore since its opening in 1988 at Tiong Bahru Market. Owner cum Chef Cheong Weng Wah mastered the art of chicken rice, pulling in crowds since it first opened. Legacy Stalls Under One Roof
For authentic Hakka flavours, visit Pang’s Hakka Yong Tau Foo, where Chef Pang Kok Keong crafts each dish using cherished family recipes that preserve the rich legacy of Hakka cuisine. Kway chap lovers can head over to Garden Street Kway Chap, a culinary gem helmed by Jason, the third-generation owner, offering aromatic and flavorful gravy infused with a secret blend of nine herbs.
This stall continues a beloved family tradition dating back to the 1930s, promising a taste of history with every bite.
